CITY OF SAN FERNANDO ---- As President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo seems to adhere the public clamor in Pampanga and almost in the entire Central Luzon, she is expected to file her certificate of candidacy for congresswoman representing the 2nd congressional district of Pampanga today or tomorrow. This developed as the Malacanang Palace was flooded with manifesto from local officials and multi-sectoral groups asking the President to continue serving the people even in the capacity of being a representative in Congress.
Prior to this, the Pampanga Mayors League headed by Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda, business and farmer sectors in Central Luzon urged President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to continuously serve the people after her term in 2010 through throwing her candidacy for the Pampanga’s 2nd district congressional race in the next elections.
The mayors who consulted their constituents said the entry of President Arroyo in congress if elected in 2010 representing the 2nd congressional district of the province would be of great help to the continuous development of each and every municipality.
Jesus Simon, regional agriculture and fishery council (RAFC) chair said they still need the help of the President in the agricultural sector as, he added that the President has in-depth grasp on the problems besetting the farmer sector, hence, they want Arroyo to serve even in the capacity of an elected congresswoman in 2010.
In a statement, the Pampanga mayors said that the expertise of Arroyo as a leader and an economist would surely bring not only the 2nd district of Pampanga but the entire Central Luzon to greater heights if she would offer herself to serve as an elected representative and be of help to the local government officials in the development of the countryside.
“I presidente kasi nung magi yang Congresswoman, balu na ing gobyerno at balu na naman nung nanu pa ing pangangailangn ning segunda distrito kaya ali mu ikami, nune deng gang mayors at manungkulan a makaintindi buri deng maging congresswoman ing Presidente,” Guagua Mayor Ric Rivera said.
Pineda, concurrent PML president said after the President Arroyo’s term if she would be elected as congresswoman in 2010, she could concentrate her time and effort using her in-depth knowledge and experience in leadership and economy and even her influence to various sectors including to local and foreign investors for the total development of the province and the entire Central Luzon.
“Pinaniniwalaan naming hindi kalabisan kundi isang bagay na nararapat na tuloy-tuloy na pakinabangan hindi lamang po ng mga Kapampangan kundi ng mga mamamayan sa buong Rehiyon ang inyong liderato, subok na kaalaman sa ekonomiya, karanasan at malawak na ugnayan sa ibat-ibang sector at mamumuhunan hindi lamang sa nasyonal kung maging sa ibayong-dagat. Kaya pipilitin naming siyang tumakbo,” Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero said.
As would-be former President, Arroyo could easily use her wide connection in attracting investors in the countryside and even at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Clark Development Corporation, and even in other provinces outside Pampanga. “As an experience leader, Arroyo if elected in Congress, she could be of help to the local government here for job generation through attracting more investments in the region,” Guerrero said.
“Na sa pamamagitan po ng kanyang matatag na ugnayan sa mga lokal at dayuhang mamumuhunan ay makatutulong po siya sa lalong ikapagtatamo ng kaunlaran ng Gitnang Luzon,” the mayors also said in a statement.
“In Pampanga, inspite of the various programs and services delivered by the national government, still not enough to achieve the full development of the province, hence, the Kapampangans urged the President to continuously serve even at the capacity of a congresswoman,” they said.
“Kung congresswoman siya, mas mapagtutuunan niya ng pansin ang kanyang distrito at makakatulong din siya sa Pampanga at maging sa buong Central Luzon bilang isang dating Presidente,” the mayors added. (Joel P. Mapiles)
